Review : In Silico Analysis of Garcinia mangostana and Its Therapeutic Potential in Breast Cancer Treatment
Breast cancer is one of the most prevalent cancers in the world and is the leading cause of death in women. The use of conventional therapies such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy often causes serious side effects, thus encouraging the search for safer and more effective alternative therapies. The compound α -mangostin, derived from the skin of the mangosteen fruit (Garcinia mangostana L.), has shown significant anticancer activity against various types of cancer cells, including breast cancer cells. The in silico approach shows that α -mangostin interacts with several key protein targets in the growth and proliferation pathways of cancer cells such as HER2, ER α , FAS, and AKT1. This compound also has a low toxicity profile to normal cells and shows potential as a natural therapeutic agent with minimal side effects. With its high bioactivity and abundant availability of raw materials, α -mangostin is a promising candidate to be developed as a natural-based breast cancer drug.
