Harnessing telehealth for multimorbidity management in rural and remote areas: A scoping review protocol of interventions, outcomes, and implementation dynamics.
Multimorbidity, the coexistence of two or more chronic diseases in an individual, affects up to 37% of the global adult population, and poses significant health challenges, especially in rural and remote areas where access to healthcare is limited. This growing public health concern is associated with poorer health outcomes and rising healthcare costs. Telehealth presents a transformative solution, enhancing access and continuity of care. To fully leverage its benefits, it is vital to determine which modalities are most effective for specific conditions and to understand the factors that influence their successful implementation. This scoping review protocol aims to evaluate telehealth modalities for managing multimorbidity in rural and remote areas, focusing on their effectiveness in improving health outcomes and identifying the facilitators and barriers to their implementation.
