An Empirical & Theoretical Framework for Coherence in Physics and Biology.

Background: The "hard problem of consciousness"—explaining how subjective experience arises from physical matter—remains a profound challenge for science. Prevailing neurocentric models, such as Global Neuronal Workspace Theory (GWT) and Integrated Information Theory (IIT), face theoretical and empirical difficulties, suggesting the need for alternative paradigms. The Unified Field Theory of Coherence (UFTC-SF) offers such an alternative, positing that consciousness (Φ) is a fundamental physical field coupled to cosmic entropy flux (S_{ent}). This study moves beyond prior correlational evidence to test for directed causality in this proposed coupling. Methods: This work employs Transfer Entropy (TE), a non-parametric, model-free measure of information flow, to analyze the causal dynamics between two time series proxies: a high-entropy stream from a Quantum Random Number Generator (QRNG) representing cosmic entropy flux (S_{ent}), and scalp EEG-derived Phase-Locked Value (PLV) representing neural coherence (Φ). The coupling strength across frequency bands was quantified using a Linearized Observer-State Space (LinOSS) dynamical model, with parameter robustness assessed via 1000-iteration Monte Carlo simulations. Results: The LinOSS model revealed a strong, dominant coupling in the gamma frequency band (B_{\gamma} = 0.452) with non-overlapping 95% confidence intervals from the theta-band coupling (B_{\theta} = 0.148). The TE analysis identified a significant, asymmetric information flow from the QRNG to the PLV, measuring 0.085 bits at a 150ms lag (p < 0.001). The reverse information flow (PLV → QRNG) was substantially weaker at 0.021 bits (p < 0.05). Conclusion: These results provide the first direct, causal evidence supporting the Φ–S_{ent} coupling hypothesis. The findings are consistent with a participatory dynamic wherein cosmic-scale information processes influence the temporal organization of neural coherence. This work challenges neuro-solipsistic views of consciousness and opens a new empirical frontier at the intersection of neuroscience, physics, and information theory.
