A scoping review protocol to guide co-production with persons with intellectual disabilities
People increasingly recognise the disparities in cancer prevention for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Despite growing recognition of the need for inclusive health interventions for cancer prevention activities for persons with IDD, the use of co-production in cancer prevention for persons with IDD remains underexplored, with a dearth of literature. COST Action project CA21123 focuses on cancer prevention for persons with IDD, and this scoping review is being undertaken as part of the project. The scoping review Protocol will explore the available literature on how best to co-produce with people with IDD and their families or support persons. This knowledge can then be applied to co-production about cancer prevention. Thus, the scoping review will focus on co-production with people with IDD. The scoping review will follow Arksey and O’Malley's extended framework and the Joanna Briggs Institute guideline. It will be reported according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses extension for Scoping Review checklists. The electronic databases to be used are Scopus, PsycINFO, CINAHL, MEDLINE, and PubMed, which will be searched from 2019 to the present. The protocol will conform to the guidelines established by the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Protocols (PRISMA) checklists. The findings of the review will then inform the development of strategies for cancer prevention for persons with IDD.
