Theoretical Framework

This theoretical framework supports the Strategic Nonviolent Campaign (2025–2029) by integrating foundational theories from the field of democratic resistance. It draws upon Gene Sharp’s model of nonviolent action (11), civil resistance success factors from Chenoweth and Stephan (13), the concept of autocratic legalism as defined by Scheppele (2), and democratic backsliding frameworks articulated by Levitsky and Ziblatt (1), and Bermeo (7). These models inform the structure, strategic phases, and empirical hypothesis design of the campaign.

Abstract

This theoretical framework supports the Strategic Nonviolent Campaign (2025–2029) by integrating foundational theories from the field of democratic resistance. It draws upon Gene Sharp’s model of nonviolent action (11), civil resistance success factors from Chenoweth and Stephan (13), the concept of autocratic legalism as defined by Scheppele (2), and democratic backsliding frameworks articulated by Levitsky and Ziblatt (1), and Bermeo (7). These models inform the structure, strategic phases, and empirical hypothesis design of the campaign.
