Param’s Law of Perceived Threat: A Psychological Model of Group-Induced Underperformance
This project presents Param’s Law of Perceived Threat, a psychological theory developed by Param Chauhan. The theory proposes that when a group mutually accepts an individual as a dominant threat, the shared belief amplifies that individual's effectiveness, leading to suppressed performance within the group. This effect is not due to actual skill disparity, but due to collective mental conditioning. The theory is illustrated through a real-life cricket case study and supported by psychological frameworks such as stereotype threat, groupthink, and social proof. It contributes to our understanding of performance psychology, especially in familiar or close-knit environments like amateur sports teams, classrooms, or corporate groups.
