Rehabilitation Interventions in Postoperative Period of Lower Limb Amputation due to Peripheral Arterial Disease: Scoping Review

Introduction: In the acute postoperative period, it is important that rehabilitation begins early for people who have undergone amputation due to peripheral arterial disease (PAD). In this period, during hospitalization, before the person begins to adapt to the prosthesis, rehabilitation contributes for improved functional independence, reduced complications, decreased risk of mortality, improved mobility and successful prosthesis fitting. Objectives: The objective of this scoping review is to understand which rehabilitation interventions are implemented and evaluated, aimed at people who have undergone lower limb amputation due to peripheral arterial disease, in the postoperative period. Methodology: The scoping review will be supported by the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) methodology. Several databases will be searched (Medline (via PubMed), CINAHL (via EBSCO), Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Scopus, PEDro, Web of Science, SciELO. SPORTDiscus with Full Text (via BSCO), MedicLatina (via EBSCO)), and other sources of gray literature (Google Scholar, and RCAAP). Data extraction will be carried out using a tool developed based on the research objectives and inclusion and exclusion criteria. The data synthesis will be presented through narrative discourse and in the form of tables. The scoping review will include studies with adults who underwent lower limb amputation due to peripheral arterial disease. Rehabilitation interventions implemented and evaluated by health professionals that aim to promote functional independence, reduce hospital stays and prevent complications will be considered. Studies with theoretical proposals, non-applied protocols or interventions targeting individuals who have already been fitted with prostheses will be excluded.
