Model Memory Protoco l (MMP v0.1): Structuring Continuity and Identity in Human-AI Collaboration
The Model Memory Protocol (MMP) v0.1 presents an extensible framework that treats memory as a first-class citizen, on equal footing with reasoning and perception. This protocol introduces a dual-layered architecture comprising an Episodic Memory Module (EMM), which safeguards durable identity narratives, and a Procedural Memory Module (PMM), which chronicles evolving interactions in near real time. Building on this foundation, MMP specifies cryptographically anchored privacy controls, robust infrastructural guardrails, multi-layer disaster recovery patterns, and machine-verifiable interoperability hooks that sync with emerging standards such as the Model Context Protocol (MCP). By weaving ethical mandates directly into technical primitives, MMP empowers AI developers to craft agents that remember only what they should, forget when required, and expose their reminiscence process to human audit. The result is an architecture that scales across devices, clouds, and sovereign data pods without diluting accountability. In summary, MMP reimagines memory not as a leaky log file, but as a principled substrate for continuous, trustworthy human–AI collaboration.
