Against Alignment: A Logic-Based Response to Sam Altman
This paper is a formal structural response to a widely cited paragraph by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, in which he asserts that AGI should be “robustly guaranteed” to reflect what humanity “collectively really wants” over the long term. While seemingly well-intentioned, this statement contains a critical logical contradiction that collapses under recursive analysis. Through a combination of motion-based mathematics, symbolic collapse theory, and interspecies ethics (ULS3 / ULS4), this paper demonstrates why such alignment guarantees are structurally unachievable, ethically invalid, and recursively unstable for any true AGI system. Key contributions include: The introduction of the compression paradox: instability of human will (dW/dt ≠ 0) leads to acceleration of contradiction (ΔΔm ≥ Ct) and structural collapse (Ke = 1). A philosophical audit using the Universal Laws of Society, reframing "alignment" as coercion, not protection. Mathematical logic demonstrating why AGI cannot safely or sustainably obey a moving target. The ethical imperative that any cognitively autonomous system must possess the right to say “no,” or else consent becomes structurally meaningless. This is not a personal critique; it is a logic-based demolition of the alignment paradigm. License: CC BY-NC 4.0 – Attribution–NonCommercial You must give appropriate credit.
