The Social Practices of KH Hasyim Asy'ari: “The Transformation of KH Hasyim Asy'ari's Jihad Resolution Spirit in Building Nationalism in Windurojo Village in the Modern Era”
K.H. Hasyim Asy'ari, who grew up in a pesantren founded by his father and grandfather, K.H. Hasyim Asy'ari, grew up to be a prominent Islamic scholar and nationalist figure in Indonesia. He mastered various religious sciences and studied at various Islamic boarding schools in East Java, including in Mecca. KH. Hasyim Asy'ari is known as the founder of the religious organization Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) on January 31, 1926, an organization that aimed to strengthen the teachings of Ahlussunnah Wal Jama'ah Islam in the Indonesian archipelago. As Rais Akbar (Supreme Leader) of Nahdlatul Ulama, he led the struggle for Indonesian independence, including by issuing the Jihad Resolution on October 22, 1945, which required all segments of society to participate in opposing the colonial government. This study uses Pierre Bourdieu's theory of Sociology of Social Practice to analyze habitus, social capital, economic capital, cultural capital, symbolic capital, and the arena of K.H. Hasyim Asy'ari. His habitus includes perseverance in seeking knowledge, simplicity, and dedication to teaching. His social capital was reflected in his extensive network with religious scholars and other freedom fighters, including K.H. Wahab Hasbullah and Ir. Soekarno. Economically, he made use of his vast rice fields and established the company Syırkatul Inan to support his work as a missionary and the welfare of the community. The cultural capital of K.H. Hasyim Asy'ari is very strong, proven in his mastery of religious knowledge and his works that are references. Its symbolic capital is reflected in the titles "Hadratussyaikh" and "Rais Akbar", as well as the establishment of National Santri Day as a tribute to the contribution of students in the struggle for independence. The arena of struggle of K.H. Hasyim Asy'ari was centered in Jombang with the establishment of the Tebuireng Islamic Boarding School, which became the center of education and nationalist movements. Overall, K.H. Hasyim Asy'ari shows the synergy between religious values and nationalism. The concept of the Jihad Resolution succeeded in uniting Muslims to defend independence, proving that religion and nationalism are two poles that complement each other. His legacy, especially Nahdlatul Ulama and its teachings, remains relevant and continues to make significant contributions to Indonesian society to this day.
