Mapping Risk of Infection Assessment Tools for Chronic Wounds: A Scoping Review

Objective: To identify clinical assessment instruments and technologies that support the evaluation of wound infection risk, as reported in the scientific literature. A scoping review will be conducted based on the proposed methodology of the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI). The review question was developed using the PCC framework: Population – individuals with chronic wounds; Concept – wound assessment instruments and technologies; and Context – wounds at risk of infection. The literature search will be done in the following databases: MEDLINE via PubMed®, CINAHL (EBSCO), Web of Science, Scopus, Embase, LILACS, and BVS SciELO. Study selection will be performed independently and blindly by two reviewers in all phases (screening, eligibility, and inclusion), with disagreements resolved by a third reviewer. Eligible studies will include qualitative, quantitative, or psychometric research that describes using instruments or technologies to assess infection risk in chronic wounds. Only studies published between 2014 and 2024 in English, Portuguese, or Spanish and available in full text will be included.
