Aurora‑Geothermal Tower

A 500 km‑tall, ultra‑light tower built from carbon‑nanotube tensigrity segments and helium‑assisted modules is anchored 1 km into bedrock. A conductive tether at the summit harvests electrical energy from auroral currents, while closed‑loop geothermal wells in the foundation convert subsurface heat to power. Combined, the hybrid system supplies an estimated 6–30 MW of continuous, zero‑emission electricity for high‑latitude communities. All design materials are released to the public domain under a CC0 license.

Abstract

A 500 km‑tall, ultra‑light tower built from carbon‑nanotube tensigrity segments and helium‑assisted modules is anchored 1 km into bedrock. A conductive tether at the summit harvests electrical energy from auroral currents, while closed‑loop geothermal wells in the foundation convert subsurface heat to power. Combined, the hybrid system supplies an estimated 6–30 MW of continuous, zero‑emission electricity for high‑latitude communities. All design materials are released to the public domain under a CC0 license.
