Systematic Review on the Effectiveness of Silastic Septal Splints in Managing Epistaxis in Patients with Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia
Background: Current management strategies for epistaxis in HHT patients include nasal packing, tranexamic acid, laser therapy, electrocautery, coblation, intravenous bevacizumab, septodermoplasty, and Young's procedure. However, the supporting evidence for these interventions remains limited. Given the chronic and often debilitating nature of epistaxis in this cohort, there is a need to explore and validate alternative or adjunctive treatments such as silicone or silastic septal splints. Objective: To assess the effectiveness of silicone or silastic septal splints in managing epistaxis among patients with Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia (HHT). This systematic review aims to provide evidence to support these splints as a viable treatment option in this cohort of patients.
