Psychic Suffering of University Professors in Brazil: Scoping Review.

The objective of this study was to map the factors associated with the psychological distress of higher education professors in Brazil, through a scoping review according to the guidelines of the Joanna Briggs Institute and PRISMA-ScR. An analysis of 20 studies revealed that the intensification of work, the productivist logic, contractual precariousness and the absence of institutional support are central determinants of mental illness. Public institutions have structural overload and a deficit of symbolic recognition; In the private sector, unstable ties and market pressures predominate. Weakening of interpersonal relationships and professional devaluation aggravate suffering. Environments with institutional support and collaborative organizational culture are protective. It is concluded that prevention and collective care strategies are urgent, requiring institutional policies that confront productivism and promote mental health in the teaching work.
