The wheels of scientific progress: Lottery competition II

The core idea of the project called “The wheels of scientific progress” is to create a competition of factors. Different research groups propose a factor they believe to be a strong contender against fundamental principles: value dominance, compensation, weighting, time preferences. Each group agrees to use the same standardized set of lottery tasks—as described below—in both a control condition and one or more experimental conditions where the proposed competing factor is either manipulated or measured. This shared structure ensures comparability across studies and allows for a rigorous evaluation of each factor's explanatory power.

Abstract

The core idea of the project called “The wheels of scientific progress” is to create a competition of factors. Different research groups propose a factor they believe to be a strong contender against fundamental principles: value dominance, compensation, weighting, time preferences. Each group agrees to use the same standardized set of lottery tasks—as described below—in both a control condition and one or more experimental conditions where the proposed competing factor is either manipulated or measured. This shared structure ensures comparability across studies and allows for a rigorous evaluation of each factor's explanatory power.
