Les Enjeux de l’Intelligence Artificielle pour la Traduction Juridique au Sein de l’Union Européenne – Observations Générales du Point de Vue de la Juritraductologie

Artificial intelligence (AI) is playing an increasingly important role in the translation services of European institutions, which has naturally led to it becoming a more frequent theme in conferences on translation in general, and legal translation in particular. This interdisciplinary is- sue of the challenges posed by AI in the first quarter of the twenty-first century brings together linguists, lawyers and translators, both theoreticians and practitioners. The issues raised by AI in legal translation within European institutions reveal two main challenges around which I will focus. The growing role of AI and the increasing use of neural automatics (NAM) in EU translation services is helping to meet the challenge of exponential translation volumes. The second challenge concerns the quality of the transfer of meaning at the end of the translation process, and the risk that AI may pose to legal certainty.
