Phasor Estimation and Power Measurement in the Context of Dynamic RMS Simulation Model Validation
There are numerous applications for the transformationof three-phase signals into RMS or phasor values inelectric power systems. Examples are phase angle monitoringor the validation of dynamic RMS simulation models, with thelatter being the primary focus of this work. Several methodsfor this transformation based on signal definitions of RMSvalues as well as active and reactive power found in literatureand guidelines are reviewed. The methods incorporate phasorestimation, Fourier transformation, Kalman filter and phaselockedloops for enhanced accuracy during frequency deviations.Benchmark tests are defined to compare the results of thetransformation to the outcome of RMS simulations. Methodsbased on digital Fourier transform perform best on average, although no method outperforms the others in all scenarios.
