The Demographic Transition and the Development of Healthcare in China: Challenges and Response Strategies
With significant changes in China's demographic structure, especially the accelerated trends of population aging, declining birth rates, and rising non-marriage rates, the country is facing a series of new challenges and opportunities. This paper aims to analyze the changes in China's population quantity and quality, to explore the impacts of these changes on the development of the healthcare sector, and to propose relevant policy recommendations. The study finds that although China once benefited from a demographic dividend, the population has shown a continuous decline in recent years, exerting new pressures on labor supply, consumer markets, and the allocation of healthcare resources. The article suggests strategies such as optimizing population development, enhancing elderly healthcare service provision, promoting the integration of healthcare and education, and drawing on international experiences, in order to promote the high-quality healthcare development, meet the growing health needs of the people, and ensure sustainable socio-economic development.
