3D Stretchable Electronics\nwith Stretchable Interlayer\nConnectors
The unique mechanical characteristics of stretchable\nelectronics\nhas significantly expanded applications by overcoming the limitations\n(rigid, planar) of conventional electronics. However, most reported\nstretchable electronics are two dimensionally stretchable (laterally\nstretchable in the <i>xy</i>-axis) in a single layer or\neven in multiple layers. In this report, we present three dimensionally\n(3D) stretchable electronics (laterally and vertically stretchable\nin the <i>xyz</i>-axes) in multilayered 3D electronic circuits.\nComputational and experimental studies indicate that the approach\nis reliable in three-dimensional deformations. The base units, stretchable\ninterlayer connectors, can be applied to form various electronic circuit\ndesigns in 3D stretchable forms. We demonstrated the efficacy of the\napproach by designing and fabricating a 3D stretchable light emitting\ndiode (LED) matrix display (125 LEDs).
