Tuning the Photophysical\nProperties of BODIPY Dyes\nand Studying Their Self-Assembly via Hydrogen Bonding
Here, BODIPY derivatives were functionalized with barbituric\nacid,\nwhich has multiple hydrogen bonding abilities that are directional,\nto have highly ordered hydrogen bond–mediated self-assembled\nstructures to tune BODIPY’s photophysical properties. The synthesis\nof barbituric acid-functionalized BODIPY derivatives via Vilsmeier\nand Knoevenagel reactions was achieved, and the resulting compounds\nwere characterized with FT-IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR\nspectroscopy, and mass spectrometry. Hydrogen bond-mediated self-assembled\nstructures were investigated through UV–vis and fluorescence\nspectrophotometry, 1H NMR spectroscopy, and a dynamic light\nscattering method in solution. Moreover, SEM, HR-TEM, and PXRD were\nused to study the self-assembly of compounds in bulk.
