Mechanically Driven,\nContinuous Synthesis of Chiroplasmonic\nAssemblies
Chiral plasmonic nanomaterialswith their significant\napplications\nin protein detection, drug screening, and enantioselective sensingnecessitate\nan industrialized fabrication procedure to enhance their commercial\nviability. However, the prevailing manufacturing of chiral plasmonic\nnanoparticles and assemblies heavily leans on manual intervention,\ncausing time-consuming and quality-inconsistent concerns. Here, we\ndevelop an automated, continuous mechanical synthesis system that\nconsistently sprays metal nanowires to create chiroplasmonic assemblies:\na macroscopic twisted layered structure comprising equivalent linear\nbirefringence layers, approximate linear polarizer layers, and a precise\nangular offset between them. Utilizing the synthesis-with-automation\nsystem, we scale up the production of chiral plasmonic films, generating\nhigh optical asymmetry (<i>g</i>-factor, with the order\nof 10–1) across a broadband ranging from ultraviolet\nto near-infrared wavelengths. We further introduce the portable chiral\nsensing, expanding plasmonic assemblies into flexible materials and\nintegrating them with wearable real-time display devices. Our mechanically\ndriven, continuous synthesis of chiral plasmonic structures presents\nan intriguing pathway to facilitate functional chiral structures toward\npractice.
