Threat Hunting on 5G Future Communication Testbed Using MITRE FiGHT Framework
With the rapid expansion and adoption of 5G networks, the complexity and scale of potential cyber threats have significantly increased, necessitating advanced threat-hunting capabilities to ensure network security and resilience. This paper aims to enhance threat-hunting capabilities within 5G networks by leveraging the MITRE FiGHT scenario mapping. The primary objective is to develop methodologies for detecting and mitigating cyber threats in 5G systems. MITRE FiGHT integrates theoretical approaches, proof-of-concept strategies, and observed techniques, providing a robust foundation for identifying potential threats and refining security research tailored to 5G and future technologies such as 6G. The scope of the threat-hunting exercise includes executing advanced cybersecurity solutions and intelligence. Our efforts focus on (i) conducting indepth threat assessments, (ii) conducting adversary tactics, (iii) identifying security vulnerabilities, and (iv) analyzing the logs collected on the 5G testbed in the Future Communications Translation Lab (FCTL) in Singapore. This comprehensive approach is designed to reinforce the resilience of 5G networks against evolving cyber and network threat vectors.
