LuCl<sub>3</sub>/B(C<sub>6</sub>F<sub>5</sub>)<sub>3</sub> Cocatalyzed Reductive\nDeoxygenation of Ketones, Aldehydes,\nAlcohols, and Ethers to Alkanes with Pinacolborane

This report describes the LuCl<sub>3</sub>/B(C<sub>6</sub>F<sub>5</sub>)<sub>3</sub> cocatalyzed reductive deoxygenation of\n67 ketones,\naldehydes, alcohols, and ethers to alkanes under mild conditions.\nThe strategy tolerates reactive amino, hydroxyl, nitro, halogen, vinyl,\nand ester functional groups, and the results demonstrate rare chemoselective\ndeoxygenation of α,β-unsaturated ketones. Isotopic labeling\nexperiments, control experiments, and derivatization studies are used\nto elucidate the reaction mechanism.
