Ultrathin Gd-Oxide\nNanosheet as Ultrasensitive Companion\nDiagnostic Tool for MR Imaging and Therapy of Submillimeter Microhepatocellular\nCarcinoma
Early stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) presents a\nformidable\nchallenge in clinical settings due to its asymptomatic progression\nand the limitations of current imaging techniques in detecting micro-HCC\nlesions. Addressing this critical issue, we introduce a novel ultrathin\ngadolinium-oxide (Gd-oxide) nanosheet-based platform with heightened\nsensitivity for high-field MRI and as a therapeutic agent for HCC.\nSynthesized via a digestive ripening process, these Gd-oxide nanosheets\nexhibit an exceptional acid-responsive profile. The integration of\nthe ultrathin Gd-oxide with an acid-responsive polymer creates an\nultrasensitive high-field MRI probe, enabling the visualization of\nsubmillimeter-sized tumors with superior sensitivity. Our research\nunderscores the ultrasensitive probe’s efficacy in the treatment\nof orthotopic HCC. Notably, the ultrasensitive probe functions dually\nas a companion diagnostic tool, facilitating simultaneous imaging\nand therapy with real-time treatment monitoring capabilities. In conclusion,\nthis study showcases an innovative companion diagnostic tool that\nholds promise for the early detection and effective treatment of micro-HCC.
