A versatile\nand atom-economic three-component reaction\nbetween\n3-cyano-4-styrylcoumarins, 1,3-indandione, and aliphatic alcohols\nis described for synthesizing diversely multifunctionalized benzocoumarins.\nThis strategy allows facile access to various benzocoumarins bearing\nan amine and a substituted benzoyl scaffold under simple heating conditions.\nReadily available precursors, operational simplicity, acceptable functional\ngroup tolerance, and excellent yields are some highlighted advantages\nof this transformation.
