Optimal reconfiguration of PV array based on non-equilateral digital image processing technology

Increasing the output power of PV arrays under partially shaded conditions remains a serious challenge for PV systems. Existing static reconfiguration schemes are often limited by a narrow range of applicability and poor shadow dispersion capability. In this paper, a new reconfiguration scheme based on two-dimensional non-equilateral Arnold variation is proposed. Simulation experiments are carried out under 65 shading cases and seven different matrices (9 × 9, 7 × 7, 6 × 6, 5 × 9, 5 × 5, 4 × 4, 4 × 3). The results show that the maximum output power is increased by 35.26 %, 35.12 %, 37.57 %, 41.5 %, 57.2 %, 44.47 % and 38.37 % under these matrices. Radar plots were used for qualitative analysis of these reconstruction scenarios. In addition, a 9 × 9 PV array was validated under outdoor conditions under different conditions. The Wilcoxon test with a significance level of 0.05 was performed on the global maximum power points obtained under 9 × 9, 7 × 7, and 5 × 9 matrices. From a comprehensive analyse, the proposed reconstruction scheme is applicable to a wide range of applications, and the reconstruction effect is better than all the reconfiguration schemes compared. • NE-ACM enhances PV output power by up to 57.2 %. • Improved shadow dispersion with the NE-ACM reconfiguration. • NE-ACM outperforms OEP, NCI in outdoor tests. • Radar charts provide a comprehensive comparison of schemes.
