Impact of Polarization\nField Architecture on Excitonic\nProperties of 2D Janus Homobilayers
Two-dimensional (2D) Janus excitonic materials are a\nnovel class\nof two-faced 2D materials characterized by distinct atomic arrangements\nin their top and bottom layers. These materials feature different\nchalcogen atoms on opposite sides of a transition metal layer, creating\na unique out-of-plane polarization field (Janus field) due to the\ndiffering electronegativity values of these atoms. In this work, we\nrealized 2D Janus homobilayers with controlled Janus field configurations,\nsuch as ↑↑ and ↑↓, to study the effects\nof the Janus electric field on band alignment and overall optical\nemission characteristics. Our results demonstrate that 2D Janus homobilayers\nexhibit notable changes in excitonic behavior depending on whether\nthe Janus fields are aligned in the same direction or oppose each\nother. Comparisons between natural and artificial classical TMD homobilayers\nfurther illustrated the impact of the Janus field architecture on\n2D Janus homobilayer excitonic responses.
