Material Challenges\nFacing Scalable Dry-Processable\nBattery Electrodes
Dry-processable electrode technology presents a promising\navenue\nfor advancing lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) by potentially reducing\ncarbon emissions, lowering costs, and increasing the energy density.\nHowever, the commercialization of dry-processable electrodes cannot\nbe achieved solely through the optimization of manufacturing processes\nor modifications of existing electrode components. Therefore, material\ninnovation is urgently required for each of the core components of\ndry electrodes: binders, conductive agents, and current collectors.\nThis Review explores recent advancements in these components, delving\ninto their physicochemical roles and contributions. We identify critical\nperformance factors and propose design strategies aimed at improving\nthe functionality of electrode components and the overall performance\nof dry electrodes. This Review provides insights into the material\ninnovations required to overcome current limitations and drive the\nsustainable advancement of LIB technology through dry electrode processes.
