Beyond tenure: Empowerment, job satisfaction, and a Bully-Free Egyptian Academia
Job satisfaction represents a core construct for organizational studies. Some factors affect the job satisfaction of workers: workplace bullying is a key negative factor, while psychological empowerment is considered a positive factor that increases job satisfaction. The current study examined to what extent workplace bullying acts as a mediator in the relationship between job satisfaction and psychological empowerment. A purposive sample of 219 academicians was recruited from different universities in Egypt. The respondents completed three questionnaires assessing workplace bullying, job satisfaction, and psychological empowerment. The results revealed that job satisfaction is positively associated with psychological empowerment and negatively associated with workplace bullying. Additionally, workplace bullying mediates the relationship between psychological empowerment and job satisfaction. These findings will help to understand how to control bullying to enhance the relationship between empowerment and job satisfaction in Egyptian academic institutions.
