Rediscovery of\nan Old Named Reaction: From Micellar\nCatalysis to Unusual Schotten–Baumann Conditions
A mixture of lecithin and Tween 80 as surfactants proved\nto be\neffective for amide bond formation between acyl chlorides and amines\nin an aqueous solution. This approach, commonly termed micellar catalysis,\nis hypothesized to be a greener and more efficient alternative to\nconventional methods. However, through empirical analysis, we discovered\nthat the expected advantages of micellar catalysis were unfounded,\nleading us to reevaluate its efficacy. Contrary to our initial beliefs,\nunusual Schotten–Baumann conditions proved to be superior in\nboth efficiency and practicality. This shift in understanding not\nonly challenges the current enthusiasm for micellar catalysis but\nalso reaffirms the value of established methodologies, emphasizing\nthe necessity of critical scrutiny in the advancement of sustainable\nchemistry.
