Boosting\nthe Power Performance of Microbial Fuel Cells\nby Using Dual Nanomaterial-Modified Carbon Felt Electrodes
Innovative design enhancements to microbial fuel cells\n(MFCs) are\npivotal for improving their viability as renewable energy sources.\nThis study introduces a dual approach to electrode modification, integrating\npolyaniline (PANI) and gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) on carbon felt (CF)\nanodes coupled with a unique cathode composed of DNA origami and chitosan.\nThe synergistic effect of PANI and AuNPs significantly increases the\nhydrophilicity and conductivity of the anode, leading to a considerable\nsurge in power density. Concurrently, the biocompatible DNA origami\nand chitosan-functionalized cathode facilitates efficient electron\ntransfer without relying on conventional catalysts. Together, these\nmodifications yield a 52.42% increase in the maximum power density,\nillustrating a scalable and economical path to potentiate MFCs. The\nfindings present a promising avenue for advancing MFC technology,\nemphasizing the potential of nanomaterials in enhancing bioelectrochemical\nsystems. This succinct yet comprehensive strategy marks a step forward\nin the practical application of MFCs for sustainable energy production.
