Infección por Brucella melitensis con compromiso osteoarticular, primeros casos reportados en Colombia
Brucellosis is the most common zoonosis in the world, with Brucella melitensis being the main isolated species. Despite this, only two cases of infection by this pathogen have been described in Colombia, none of them with osteoarticular involvement. Below we describe three cases of Brucella melitensis infection that debuted with spondylodiscitis, arthritis and myelitis respectively, managed with combined antibiotic therapy and associated with surgical treatment, achieving clinical cure. The above highlights the presence of Brucella melitensis in Colombia and raises the possibility of underdiagnosis of a species that before 2020 was considered absent in the country.
