Virucidal efficacy of pulsed light UV irradiation_RAW data.pptx
In emergency medical situations, individuals are often exposed to unknown pathogenic viruses and bacteria. Therefore, the use of portable pulsed light UV disinfection devices in emergency and critical care centers has increased. However, the virucidal efficacy of these devices remain unclear. The present study aimed to examine the virucidal efficacy of a portable pulsed light UV disinfection device against various viruses. The efficacy of a portable pulsed light UV disinfection device, obtained from ClearPulse® (COMET CORPORATION, Tokyo, Japan), was investigated against feline calicivirus, influenza A virus, herpes simplex virus type 2, poliovirus type 3, and severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. The device was tested at various irradiation times (1, 5, and 10 s) and irradiation distances (1, 5, and 10 cm). The portable pulsed light UV disinfection device was effective against the tested viruses at an irradiation distance ≤ 5 cm and an irradiation time ≥ 5 s. These results indicate that the portable pulsed light UV disinfection device is effective for the rapid disinfection of surfaces against viruses, making it highly useful in emergency and critical care situations.
