Data from: A decrease in serum calcium predicts enhanced muscle function and mass following surgery for primary hyperparathyroidism.
We assessed muscle mass and strength before and after parathyroid surgery in a group of patients with hyperparathyroidism. Our study revealed significant decline in muscle strength, thickness and mass (assessed by ultrasonography) in patients with primary hyperparathyroidism, which improved after parathyroidectomy and achievement of cure. This improvement was primarily predicted by reductions in serum calcium, rather than reductions in serum parathyroid hormone levels. The item deposited herein contains supplementary tables primarily related to statistics of ROC curve analysis and generalized linear model for factors influencing the changes in muscle mass and strength.
