Modeling and simulation of monoclonal antibody (mAb) production in bioreactors using hybridomas: comparison of operating modes
In this study, the production of monoclonal antibodies (mAb) was evaluated in-silico using the Matlab program, comparing batch, fed-batch, and continuous cultures in a stirred-tank bioreactor. The impact of various design factors in a bioreactor, such as temperature, rpm, pressure, and mass transfer elements, was also assessed. The simulations were modeled based on a modified multiplicative Monod model. The results indicate that batch culture produced 2.5 times more monoclonal antibodies (mAb) compared to the baseline, while the fed-batch process generated nearly 10,000 times more, and the continuous process produced 2,500 times more.
