Educomunicación en la era de la hiperconectividad: Educación libertadora para fomentar la ciudadanía crítica / Educommunication in the era of hyperconnectivity: Liberating education to promote critical citizenship
This article explores the role of media education (educommunication) in promoting critical citizenship in the context of hyperconnectivity and digital saturation. Grounded in critical pedagogy, particularly Freirean principles, the study discusses how media literacy initiatives can empower learners to navigate digital environments consciously and reflectively. The authors argue that educommunication offers a transformative pedagogical approach capable of counteracting the passive consumption of media and fostering democratic engagement. The concept of hyperconnectivity is examined as both a challenge and a pedagogical opportunity to encourage active participation in the digital public sphere. By emphasising dialogic education, critical thinking, and cultural contextualisation, the article proposes a model for media education that integrates civic engagement and social justice. Through theoretical reflection and didactic experience, the authors advocate for the re-politicisation of media education and its integration into formal and informal learning environments. The article contributes to educational and communication studies by reasserting the need for liberating education that promotes critical consciousness, especially in times of technological overload and digital misinformation.
