Mold Growth on Bread, Tissue, and Paper ina Basement Environment
In an experimental observation conducted in an unfinished concrete basement, a piece of damp Sara Lee butter bread was stored inside a small plastic box with a coin slot from June to February. The bread, covered by paper tissue and a handwritten note, exhibited significant mold growth. The surface of both the tissue and paper was predominantly colonized by brown mold, with a lesser extent of green mold. The brown mold appeared to have overgrown the green mold, suggesting competitive colonization. The environmental conditions of the basement, characterized by fluctuating temperatures and high humidity, likely facilitated the proliferation of mold over the extended period of storage.
