<b>Formalization of Basic Concepts of Memetics Elaborated with a Big Help from my Friend Claude AI</b>
Since Richard Dawkins coined the term "meme" in The Selfish Gene (1976) 1, this concept has lacked precise formal definition. This paper develops a formalization of memes by conceptualizing them as specialized semiotic signs, employing semiotic algebras and morphisms to represent memes and their evolutionary dynamics. While Goguen applied this framework to user interface design, we repurpose it to formalize representation, mutation, and hybridization of memes. The paper introduces the concept of memetic intelligence based on meme recognition and processing in complex reality. It also documents the systematic use of large language models as research consultation tools when connecting concepts from memetics, semiotics, and category theory.1Richard Dawkins, <i>The Selfish Gene</i> (New York: Oxford University Press, 1976).
