Loss of Indigenous Linguistic Diversity in Bangladesh.pdf
Bangladesh, a nation known for its rich cultural and ethnic tapestry, is home to over 50 Indigenous Peoples speaking at least 37 distinct languages in addition to the predominant Bengali. Despite their cultural significance, these indigenous languages, including Chakma, Mro, and Marma, face a crisis due to their exclusion from the formal education system. The lack of inclusion in the national curriculum, compounded by insufficient resources and support, has led to severe consequences such as cultural erosion, educational inequality, and the risk of language extinction. Efforts by non-governmental organizations and local activists aim to mitigate these issues, but face challenges related to funding and systemic support. To address this crisis, a comprehensive approach involving government action, curriculum development, and community engagement is crucial to preserve Bangladesh's linguistic and cultural diversity.
