de novo transcriptome assembly and annotation of Gammarus pulex: a valuable resource for ecotoxicogenomics
This study presents the de novo transcriptome assembly and annotation of Gammarus pulex, a freshwater amphipod crucial to ecotoxicology due to its ecological significance and sensitivity to pollutants. Three distinct transcriptomes were generated from G. pulex collected at sites with varying levels of micropollutant exposure across Germany and Sweden. High-quality transcriptomes were assembled for each population (German, Swedish, and combined) using RNA sequencing (RNA-Seq). Functional annotation identified coding regions, signal peptides, transmembrane domains, and conserved protein domains within the transcripts. This comprehensive transcriptomic resource enhances our understanding of G. pulex's molecular responses to environmental stressors, particularly micropollutant stress. The identified genes and pathways provide potential biomarkers for ecological monitoring and facilitate future ecotoxicogenomic studies, further reinforcing G. pulex as a sentinel species for aquatic ecosystem health. Please refer to the "Readme.txt inside the directory to get an overview of the file structure and contents.
