Flos-aquae in Potable Waters : Laboratory Equivalents for Toxic Degradation
Toxic degradation of Aphanizomenon flos-aquae (commonly known as "flos-aquae") in drinking water occurs when this cyanobacteria species dies and breaks down, releasing harmful cyanotoxins that can pose health risks if ingested. This process is considered toxic due to the release of these dangerous compounds. While there are various methods to reduce toxicity, ionization at the end of the filtration process may be an effective solution to eliminate microbial species and their associated organoleptic properties.
