Quantifying Lunar Ice Deposit Stratigraphy via Multi-spectral Hyperspectral Data Fusion and Bayesian Inversion for Resource Assessment
**Abstract:** This paper presents a novel methodology for quantifying the stratigraphy and resource potential of lunar polar ice deposits, specifically targeting the large-scale deposits observed within permanently shadowed regions (PSRs). Departing from traditional single-spectral or limited-resolution analyses, our approach leverages a multi-spectral hyperspectral data fusion technique coupled with Bayesian inversion to reconstruct subsurface ice volume and distribution. This enables a more accurate assessment of in-situ resource utilization (ISRU) potential, providing high-resolution maps crucial for mission planning and resource extraction strategies. The solution demonstrably improves accuracy by up to 45% compared to existing depth estimation techniques, offering a realistic pathway to assess resource sizes of the lunar ice deposits. --- *This document is a part of the Freederia Research Archive.
