CYCLES OF CRISIS, FRAUD AND INNOVATION: FROM TULIPOMANIA TO WEB3 AS A NEW CAMBRIAN ECONOMIC EXPLOSION
This paper investigates the structural similarities and institutional differences between financial crises and historical frauds—from Tulip Mania to the Crash of 1929, including Ponzi schemes, the Asian Tigers, and Greece, to recent episodes in the Web3 ecosystem, such as the FTX bankruptcy and rug pulls. In light of the Austrian School of economics and supported by the biological metaphor of the Cambrian Explosion, a theoretical model for building resilient tokenomics is proposed. The methodology combines historical qualitative analysis with quantitative suggestions (Benford’s Law, Fibonacci, and Monte Carlo tests)
applied to blockchain auditing. The conclusion is that Web3 must combine technology with classical economic principles to avoid repeating past failures.
