Abstract

This text aims to present Strabo and discuss his geographical studies, with a focus on the necessary fact that we must understand the genesis of Geography in order to better engage in this science in contemporary times. It results from studies on the author and his work, and the importance he holds for the development of historical geographic knowledge. Geography, as knowledge essential to the development of humanity, has a long history. Over time, numerous thinkers have paid special attention to the study of the genesis of geographical knowledge, among them Strabo, a cultured Greek who was born in 63 BC in Amasya, in present-day Turkey.
