Traditional African Christianity And Authorial Vision In Ibezute’s Goddess In The Cathedral (2).pdf

Abstract The postcolonial humans in the African novel have attempted to resolve religious crises as a result of cultural contact through hybridity. This study, through the application of the concept of hybridity in postcolonial theory, analyses religious hybridity in Ibezute‟s Goddess in the Cathedral as referential to traditional African religious practices of Christianity in African society. Through textual analyses, this study foregrounds the emergence of traditional African Christianity, which is a blend of African traditional religion and Christianity. The study also accounts for the authorial vision as one of the unintended consequences of colonialism in the novel of the colonized. This study concludes that postcolonial Africans resolve religious conflicts through blending and use such blending to solve social problems. This study further affirms that art is a creative imitation of society. Keywords: Authorial Vision, African Traditional Religion, Christianity, Postcolonial.
