Digital Immortality: Fantasy or the future of human evolution?
Annotation. Since ancient times, man has been concerned about the problem of death and the possibility of overcoming it. Myths, religions, and philosophical teachings offered various interpretations of death and ways to achieve immortality – whether it was an afterlife, reincarnation, or merging with the absolute. In the XXI century, in the era of scientific and technological progress, technological concepts are replacing religious and mystical ideas, offering new ways to overcome human biological limitations, including his mortality. One of such concepts is digital immortality (digital double, digital ghost) — a hypothetical possibility of preserving the informational essence of a person – his personality, consciousness, memories, experience — and its continued existence independently of the physical body. Digital immortality is based on a number of assumptions that have yet to be proven or disproved, but the idea itself is already generating a lot of scientific, philosophical and ethical discussions. This article is devoted to the analysis of this concept, its philosophical premises, technological prospects and potential impact on the future of mankind.
