Pueblo Santa Rosa Xochiac. Tierra y Memoria
This book is a collective effort that brought together the communes of Santa Rosa Xochiac, which have safeguarded historical and legal documents regarding the town's foundation and evolution; the technical team of CORENADR, specializing in social sciences, who supported with research, interpretation, and design of field strategies; and the researchers from Escuela Nacional de Antropología e Historia (ENAH), who contributed to the review of the documentation. The book is divided into three chapters: "Walking the Territory," where colonial documents containing Nahuatl toponyms are examined, and interpreted with the support of residents and language teachers. This multidisciplinary analysis connects the community's history, culture, and geography, clarifying territorial disputes. In the chapter "Spaces of Memory," collective identity is reconstructed through oral tradition. The stories show how the inhabitants have built and defended their territory, highlighting the importance of the three forms of land tenure: ejido, small property, and communal lands. The final chapter, "Strategies for Protecting the Forest," analyzes the evolution of community organization to safeguard the territory, which is seen not only as a resource but as a heritage that the community is committed to preserving for the benefit of all.
