Cyclic Cohomology and Geometric Invariants ofGroupoid C*-Algebras

We study the cyclic cohomology of geometric C*-algebras associated with smoothgroupoids, foliated manifolds, and noncommutative spaces arising from dynamicsand arithmetic. Cyclic cohomology, developed by Connes, generalizes de Rham co-homology and provides tools to extract invariants from noncommutative algebras, particularly when classical geometry breaks down.We begin with explicit cocycles on the smooth circle algebra C∞(S1), connectingthem to K-theoretic winding numbers.

Abstract

We study the cyclic cohomology of geometric C*-algebras associated with smoothgroupoids, foliated manifolds, and noncommutative spaces arising from dynamicsand arithmetic. Cyclic cohomology, developed by Connes, generalizes de Rham co-homology and provides tools to extract invariants from noncommutative algebras, particularly when classical geometry breaks down.We begin with explicit cocycles on the smooth circle algebra C∞(S1), connectingthem to K-theoretic winding numbers.
