Show me who your friends are, and I will tell you who you are: Structural analysis of the networks of Colombian senators for the 2010-2014 and 2014-2018 periods.
In this article, we explore the relationship between the role played by Colombian senators from the 2010-2014 and 2014-2018 legislative periods in the network structure of Senate members’ connections on Twitter, and their political power, represented by the number of laws they passed. Using a fixedeffects Poisson model, we find evidence of a positive association between a party’s proportion of seats, eigenvector centrality, closeness centrality, and political power. Conversely, betweenness centrality, eccentricity, and membership in the government coalition appear to be negatively associated with political power.
