The Impact of Tourism Industry Agglomeration on Regional Economic Gap

Based on panel data of 31 provinces and cities in China from 2004 to 2020, transport and information infrastructure are included in the research framework of tourism industry agglomeration and regional economic gap, and the influence and mechanism of tourism industry concentration density on the regional economic gap are empirically tested using a variety of measurement methods. The results are as follows: (1) Tourism industry agglomeration has a significant slowing effect on regional economic disparity. (2) In addition to having a significant negative impact on the regional economic gap, information, transport infrastructure, and their combined effects all play a negative regulatory role in the impact of tourism industry agglomeration on the regional economic gap, and the regulatory role is heterogeneous in different regions, times, and degrees of tourism development. (3) There is a nonlinear relationship between the influence of tourism industry agglomeration on the regional economic gap, the individual role of traffic and information infrastructure, and their combined role. The results further prove that these factors have a negative regulating effect on the influence effect; the conclusion of this study is helpful to further understand the effect and internal mechanism of the tourism industry on regional economic gaps and provide a reference for narrowing regional economic gaps and promoting regional coordinated development.
